Title: An Evening at the Theater featuring Dearly Departed click here for play description
Description: Please join the Bexar County Family Justice Center Foundation on January 27, 2010 for their fourth annual fundraiser, An Evening at the Theater. This year, Ms. Vivienne Elborne will direct the play Dearly Departed written by David Bottrell and Jessie Jones. Ms. Elborne has directed and acted in theatre in the United States, United Kingdom, Mexico, Ontario, Russia, and the Ukraine, and has also been inducted into the San Antonio Women's Hall of Fame and received the JC Penney Spirit of the American Woman Award. Her talents will be revealed through a cast of ten, including two of Bexar County’s finest legal minds – Catherine Babbitt and Catherine Hayes. All proceeds from the event go to support the Bexar County Family Justice Center. The evening will include a cocktail reception, an exquisite dinner and a live theater production. Title: Wine to Wildlife Festival ’09: Collin Ray Benefit Concert
Description: Take a trip to South Africa in Texas, No Passport Required. The Serengeti Resort is hosting the Wine to Wildlife Festival ’09 in celebration of its one year anniversary. Title: The Family Justice Center, the Mexican-American Unity Council, Family Service Association and Bexar County District Attorney’s Office will sponsor FREE art class for victims of domestic violence and their children.
Description: This event supports the Victims Empowerment Counseling Program to to begin at the Family Justice Center. This program was written by Family Service Association for the Family Justice Center to exclusively address counseling issues faced by victims of domestic violence. Many studies have found that art is therapeutic to the mind and soul. This class is the third of a series of classes that will be held lead by local artists and a Family Service Association counselor. The class will be opened for approximately 40 victims to work through issues in a group format.

Description: The Convocation will be facilitated by Ms. Mary Flannagan from Management Solutions Group, LLC. Mary’s work with Management Solutions began in 2003 and builds on 25 years experience in planning, project development, fund raising, coalition building, board governance, leadership development and management in the non-profit arena. Her list of clients in San Antonio includes the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, City of San Antonio, The San Antonio Symphony, United Way, Our Lady of the Lake University, Metro Health District, Children’s Shelter, Valero Energy Corporation, Rack Space, and many more. With every client, she helps groups clarify the issues and challenges they need to address, and helps them create working solutions in which they believe. Description: In the months of September and October, The Bexar County Family Justice Center and the Bexar County Criminal District Attorney’s Office will partner with Dress for Success San Antonio for a Suit Drive. Prosecutors and other career professionals will donate their “power” suits as a way of sending a message to victims that they can be empowered when connected with the right resources. Impact of Aging on Domestic Violence: Prevention and Intervention Training
Description: Domestic Violence is a reality that many seniors live with on a daily basis. The general population doesn't think about this reality. The Task Force against Elder Domestic Violence is working to change this perception as they sponsor their annual conference, "The Impact of Aging on Domestic Violence: Prevention and Intervention." This one day conference will focus on the aging process, signs of domestic abuse, the ethics of working with the elderly who are being abused, effective interventions, and available resources.

Strack, CEO of the National Family Justice Center Alliance, will present courses in (1) The Prosecution of Domestic Violence Cases Post Crawford and (2) The Study, Medical Perspective, Investigation and Prosecution of Strangulation Cases. Jim Barker, Training Director for the National Family Justice Center Alliance, will also be at the Center to speak to local law enforcement on the following topics: Domestic Violence Investigations, Officer Involved Domestic Violence, Hostage Negotiations and Security at a Family Justice Center. Title: “Dakshina”
Description: Suchitra Sairam will join Samanvaya Arts Academy to support the Bexar County Family Justice Center, offer thanks to the community, and honor her teachers as she presents “Dakshina,” – meaning “An Offering”. This offering is a collection of signature choreographies by some of the greatest Bharatanatyam masters. She will be supported by a talented live musical ensemble from India on vocal, nattuvangam (vocal percussion and had cymbals), flute, mridangam (drum), and rhythm pads. This event hopes to raise domestic violence awareness in the Asian community. All proceeds will benefit the Bexar County Family Justice Center. Tickets are available for $10.00 in advance and $12.00 at the door. Criminal Law-Misdemeanors (from the Defense, Ina M. Castillo, Attorney at Law)

Description: Ina M. Castillo was born and raised in El Paso, Texas. She attended the University of Notre Dame, and received her Bachelor of Arts in English and Government in 1997. Ms. Castillo attended St. Mary's University School of Law, and completed her J.D. in 2000. While in law school, she interned with the Bexar County District Attorney's Office preparing writs of habeas corpus applications on behalf of the Criminal District Court Judges. Ms. Castillo was employed as an Assistant Criminal District Attorney for the Bexar County District Attorney's Office for six years. She was initially assigned to the Family Violence Unit, prosecuting domestic violence cases in County Court at Law No. 7. Thereafter, she was assigned to the 399TH Judicial District Court, and prosecuted felony cases involving sex crimes against children and women. Ms. Castillo also handled various criminal cases in the 186TH Judicial District Court, as well as mental health cases in the Magistrate Court. In 2007, Ms. Castillo formed her own law office. Her practice consists mainly of criminal defense and Child Protective Services cases.

Sylvia, the two-act live theater play, is a Tony award winning production written by A.R. Gurney produced first in 1995 at the Manhattan Theater Club starring Sarah Jessica Parker. The play is about a stray dog, the couple that adopts her and the drama that results.
